Day 6

Today is the sixth day of school for the kids.  Eyvind was home sick yesterday and remains home today because she has not yet been free of her fever for 24 hours.  It's kindergarten; she'll catch up.

I got a call from the school social worker this morning.  She started off the conversation telling me that she was calling about Eyvind being out again today.  She said that Eyvind's teacher was concerned.  I told her that I called and left a message twice yesterday with the office explaining that Eyvind was ill and that I called again this morning because although she had improved, she was still within the 24 hour window of having had a fever.  I told her I also planned to send the required note with Eyvind when she returned to school.  The social worker backpedalled a bit and said that the teacher just hadn't gotten an email from me and was concerned.  I asked her to clarify - In the future, I need to call, email, and send a written note?  No, no, just do whatever is easiest for me.  Uh, huh.

But then she got to the real reason she called: Morley.  One of Morley's teachers approached her because he got frustrated in class and "said what he was thinking and expressed his frustration."  It was fun to tell her that in his previous school they had trained him to verbalize his feelings because he used to be practically non-verbal and often struck out physically when frustrated; so, he was doing exactly what he was taught to do.  The conversation went downhill continued from there.

Today is the sixth day of school, but I'm feeling like I'm already done with it.
