For anyone not in-the-know, sometime in the middle of August we had to relinquish Begbie, the dog we adopted. Despite three months of training, he was biting without being provoked. He responded to all the other training, but the biting never stopped. At first we had hoped it was just a teething issue, but his demeanor was aggressive. We thought maybe he wasn't getting enough activity so we increased our play with him; nothing helped. With Morley already having a fear of dogs and with Eyvind being young, we decided that we couldn't keep him. It was a terrible decision to have to make. The kids were a mixture of sad and relieved. I just felt like a terrible person. There are a lot of people in the area who want cattle dogs, so I imagine that they were able to place him with someone who didn't mind a rougher dog.
Giving back the dog left us with two slightly crotchety cats. Boudicca loves Jesse (because he feeds her) and Rabbie likes me (because I have fingernails to scratch him with), but they aren't keen on the kids. They tolerate the kids. I guess that's what can happen when you adopt older cats. Clearly, the answer to that problem was to adopt a kitten. Over this past weekend we adopted Chekhov. He is a Russian blue mix with an abundance of personality, and he practically demands love and interaction from the kids. The other two cats are fine with him as long as he doesn't try to sleep in their spots.
Terrible lighting, sorry.
