Hotels

Traveling with pets really limits the hotels where you can stay, especially when you have to make your 3-day drive last for 9 days.

First stop: America's Best Value Inn in Prescott, Arkansas.  The people who ran this place were very nice, but it was old and run-down.  To be fair, it was out in the middle of nowhere.  It smelled slightly of cigarettes, the furniture was stained, and the bathroom was poorly cleaned.  Interestingly, this hotel had the best TV channel options.

Second stop: Super 8 in Hazen, Arkansas.  Again, very nice people running the place.  It was an improvement over the first night as it was much cleaner.  Still, it smelled like cigarettes.  The best thing about this stop was the awesome Mexican food we had for dinner.

Third stop: LaQuinta Inn in Jackson, Tennessee.  This was the nicest hotel we stayed at and the pictures don't do it justice.  It was clean, didn't smell like smoke, and the people were great.  The only bad part of this stop was during breakfast when a fuckwit guest turned on Fox News.  It's really not child-friendly and there were a lot of little kids.

Fourth stop: Days Inn in Joelton, Tennessee.  This was the worst.  It smelled like cigarettes and cheap cleaning solution and was filthy.  Our car was broken into and the people at the front desk didn't even apologize.

Fifth stop: Quality Suites in LaGrange, Kentucky.  Okay, so technically this was the nicest hotel we stayed at, but I still liked the LaQuinta in Tennessee more.  I had to ask for a new iron and ironing board because there was grease all over the ones in the room.  When they brought up new ones, those were also dirty.  What are people doing with hotel irons?!

Sixth stop: Red Roof Inn in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.  We weren't supposed to be at this hotel.  Our reservations were at a LaQuinta but they refused to allow 3 cats in our room.  I asked if we could just get a second room and they said they were booked solid.  Their parking lot was visible from the Red Roof Inn - it remained empty.  So, the Red Roof Inn smelled like wet dog and was pretty sketchy.  We were supposed to stay in Reynoldsburg for three nights but left after one.

Seventh (final) stop: Super 8 in Mentor, Ohio.  These guys were pretty great.  The hotel staff was the nicest and it had the best location.  It did smell a bit like cigarettes, but it was very clean.  It was a short drive to Lake Erie and a Lego store.  We visited both, but I only took the camera to the lake.

  1. I’ve always loved your sense of style. Of course you wanted an iron and have a lovely dress on at the Lake!!

    1. Back at you - it was actually a turquoise top you used to wear that inspired me to add more colors to my closet.
