Short walk

While Jesse was getting his parking sticker and I.D. tag, I went for a walk with the kids.  Houghton College owns a lot of land with walking trails and we are fortunate enough to live across the street from one of the trailheads.  This was the second time we have taken this trail - we walked it a few days ago when we went to a baseball game.  We saw two deer on that walk; we mainly saw flies on this one.

 Trailhead

They have notices up saying not to cut the grass on the sides.  They intentionally let it go a bit wild, and if the insect population is any indication, it's a healthy ecosystem.  This is also where we saw the deer.  The grasses are so high we didn't see them until they leaped away from us.

In the winter, this is used as a skiing/snowboarding hill.  You can see the baseball diamond in the distance.

This trail drops you at the (very nice) athletic center.  Apparently the wife of the owner of the Buffalo Bills is a graduate of Houghton and they paid for the athletic complex.

The buildings on the left are part of the campus and we think the blue house is as well.

That house may also be a campus house.

Made it back home.

  1. I'm only going to comment on this posting...but enjoyed all the photos. I think I even got a glimpse of one of the cats in one from the motels. :) Houghton of course is beautiful, which I expected as I have already been to upstate New York and the entire region is gorgeous. Wait til the Fall...the colors omg...my cousin Carol in Beacon always posts some pics for me so I can see them. Is there poisen ivy up there? Ulster county has it but don't know...Houghton is Allegheny county and colder so maybe they lucked out. The house looks very pretty and the kids...don't look much like kids anymore, with the exception of Eyvind who looks 8, not soon to be 5! Praying that all of you are going to LOVE it there.
