Phone calls from school

The math teacher called and left a message yesterday afternoon saying that she needed to speak to us about Dashiell.  I knew the boys had a test yesterday, and my imagination filled in the blanks.  When the boys got home, I pulled Dash aside and asked him how the test went; he said, "I felt pretty good about it."  I asked if he looked at anyone else's paper - slightly offended, highly emphatic no.  I asked if it was a scantron and he maybe filled in the wrong bubbles - it wasn't a scantron.  I asked if Morley had any trouble with the test - yes.  According to Dashiell, and confirmed by Morley, he was very upset at one point during the test and the teacher had to come over to him.  I talked to Morley about considering others and not acting in a way that would be distracting to his classmates.  It was a productive conversation and he felt good about being able to improve his self-control.  Clearly, I thought the teacher had gotten the boys confused and she actually wanted to talk to me about Morley.  When Jesse heard about it, he said, "Maybe it's good news about Dashiell?"  Whoever heard of a teacher calling with good news?

I was supposed to call the teacher back today at noon.  Instead, I got a call at 7:15 this morning.  I answered the phone thinking, "Great, if it can't wait until noon, it must be really bad."

I will now publicly announce that I was wrong and Jesse was right.

She was calling because Dashiell is doing so well that they want him to switch to the advanced math class.  I don't know if Dashiell will want to change classes, but I'm very proud of him.

  1. That is happy news! Congrats to Dashiell on his mad math skills and congrats to Morley on attacking things head on to improve. We are so proud of them both! Love Nonni and Nonno
